Nakshatra awaits the new-age astro think-pots! Come and be ‘star-struck’, as a torrent of meteoric ideas & innovations rains on VIT University this September!

Topics & Themes:
1. Materials used in space re-entry vehicles
(Solutions for problems existing in presently used space re-entry vehicles, new innovative re-entry vehicles, materials used for their manufacture etc.)
2. Clearance of space debris
(Innovative solutions to clear used satellites, space-stations (MIR’s issue) etc. and to avoid space from getting polluted)
3. Use of space technology/energy for human welfare
(Very general and wide topic – use of any form of space technology/energy for any purpose fruitful to humans including for example – futuristic space communities, innovative weather prediction technology etc.)
4. Protection of communication systems from solar flares
(To-the-point topic – how communication systems (satellites, broadcasting equipment etc.), space shuttles, rovers etc. can be protected from solar flares)
5. Extra-galactic astronomy
(General topic dealing with black matter, relativity and the like. Also includes long-term & long-distance space missions to outer regions of the solar system, galaxies etc.)
6. Planetary sciences
(Another general topic that deals with the planets of the solar system, especially earth sciences, including for example space stations, innovative solutions to combat global warming, ozone hole widening etc.)
Important Dates:
v 10th August: Deadline for abstract submission (with clear mentioning of topic chosen) after conference registration (online or offline; but registration is must).
v 10th to 25th August: Review of abstracts by Nakshatra Reviewers’ Board.
v 26th August: Publishing of results on website & intimation to finalists of selected papers & posters.
v 28th August: Finalists to send in DD (by post*) or scan of DD (by e-mail* or fax*). Also confirmation of participation and arrival including date, time and mode of arrival from finalists.
v 15th September:
o Deadline for sending soft copy of TECHNICAL PAPER
o E-mail subject: PAPER

v 18th September:
o Deadline to send arrival details

v 20th September:

I Abstracts Specifications
§ No. of words: 250
§ Language: English
§ Paper size: A4 = 210 mm x 297 mm
§ Format: Microsoft Word 2003 (.doc)
§ Matter to be contained, Fonts & sizes to be used:
§ Typeface: Times New Roman
§ Title: 24 point, bold, centered
§ Authors: 14 point, centered
§ Address: 11 point, centered
§ Text: 14 point, justified
§ Deadline for abstract submission: 10th August, 2007 (IST 5:00 p.m. or GMT 11:30 a.m.)

Abstract Selection Rules:
§ Selection is based purely on the abstract submitted.
§ Abstracts have to be STRICTLY IN PROPER FORMAT.
§ Exceeding the word limit can invite negative marks.
§ The reviewers/coordinators reserve the right to make necessary alignment & font changes if the abstracts are not in format. However the text will not be altered in any case.
§ Decision of reviewers & event coordinators will be final and binding.
II TECHNICAL PAPER
§ Both PAPER AS WELL AS POSTER PRESENTATION finalists must prepare a Technical Review Paper & send it to us.
§ The same will be included in the Conference Souvenir CD.
§ Formats: Microsoft Word 2003 (.doc) and/or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf)
§ Send paper to: nakshatra.sedsic07@gmail.com by 15th September, 2007.

III PAPER PRESENTATION:
§ Format: Windows PowerPoint 2003 (.ppt)
§ Time-Limits:
§ Presentation: 7 minutes maximum
§ Question & Answer session by Panel of Judges: 2 minutes
§ To be presented on-stage, all audio-visual equipment will be provided.
§ Time limit should be strictly followed; any extension can lead to deduction of marks.
§ All the authors may choose to speak, but time-limit should not be exceeded.
§ Videos and/or animations (if any) may be included, but they should all be presented within the same allotted time limit of 7 minutes.
§ In order to ensure that the presentation is within our specifications, a soft copy of it should be sent to us on nakshatra.sedsic07@gmail.com by 20th September, 2007. Please refer the IMPORTANT DATES section for further details regarding this.
§ Each finalist team has to write a CD with their respective PowerPoint presentation and animations or videos (if any).
§ This CD has to be submitted to the COORDINATORS at least 1 hour prior to the beginning of the session that the team has been designated to.

IV POSTER PRESENTATION:
§ Any suitable poster medium/material can be used: paper (chart sheets), vinyl sheets, stiff cloth, hard plastic sheets etc.
§ Poster AREA should not exceed 1 m2.
§ Time-Limits:
§ Oral Presentation to Judges: 7 minutes maximum
§ Question & Answer session by Judges: 2 minutes
§ Poster should have PRINTED DATA (including graphs, pictures, diagrams etc.). Paper print-outs can be stuck, in case printing whole poster is difficult.
§ Notice board will be provided, besides pins, cello-tape & other stationery.
§ Time limit should be strictly followed; any extension can lead to deduction of marks.
§ All the authors may choose to speak, but time-limit should not be exceeded.
§ Models (if any) may be included, but oral presentation of the same should be done within the same allotted time limit of 7 minutes.
§ Do remember that your team will be judged strictly based on your poster only.
